Do I need to buy 3D DVDs/Blu Ray discs for the films to be in 3D?

I have a 3D TV and I'm about to purchase a 3D Blu Ray player, but do I
need to purchase 3D DVDs, or will it be like putting a DVD in a Blu
Ray player and it'll convert any film into 3D?
